Confirm it is up to date. A city will update its bus schedule periodically. Look at the schedule to verify the dates of validity. At the very least, there should be a date of issue, and usually a expiration date as well. If the date of issue more than a year old, check to see if there is a new schedule. Ask the driver or call the city's information line for its public transportation department. If you are taking a private bus line such as Greyhound, call the company.
Locate the correct day of the week. Most bus schedules will be different depending on if it is a weekday or the weekend. It could also be different from Saturday to Sunday as well. Look at the top of the table of the bus timetable to confirm you are checking the right daily schedule.
Take it in the right direction. Buses travel on a route in two directions. Verify that you are waiting on the correct side of the street. Each bus route will show the first stop and the last stop. You want to take it in the direction of the last stop. The name of the last stop should be at the top of the front of the bus.
Understand schedule format. A bus schedule is typically formatted as a timetable. On one side is the name of the bus stop and on the other side is the route number. Each time listed signifies when the bus will stop at that particular place. If there is a dash in any time slot, that means that bus will not stop there.
Check for holiday changes. Bus schedules will be different on holidays. There might be no service at all on major holidays. Check for a list of holidays on the schedule or call the city's information line for public transportation. You can also check on the city's official website.
