Daily Activities on the NCL Jewel

Modern day cruise ships truly are like floating cities. They offer endless daily activities for guests of all ages. Norwegian Cruise Lines features "freestyle cruising," meaning their guests have no assigned time or location for dinner or any other activity, but are free to choose when and where they dine. The "Jewel" joined the Norwegian fleet in 2005 and sails from New York, Miami or Seattle.
  1. Sports and Fitness

    • The "Jewel" has many fitness and sports options for those looking to get in a good workout or play with the family. The Body Waves fitness center has a wide range of machines including treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines and weight machines for every part of the body. The gym offers classes such as spinning and yoga. On deck 12, at the top of the ship, there is an open walking and jogging path as well as courts for volleyball, tennis and basketball.

    Shopping and Spa

    • The Galleria shops are open daily and are stocked with everything from bathing suits to fine jewels to alcohol. When sailing in international waters, these things may be purchased duty free, and are much less expensive. Guests can peruse the art gallery on board and attend art auctions to purchase works by famous artists. The Bora Bora Health Spa and Beauty Salon offers full spa treatments and beauty services, including hairstyling, massage and even services such as botox and teeth whitening.

    Games and Classes

    • Guests can enjoy playing cards or board games such as "Scrabble" or chess in the card room. They can also make use of the ship's library and curl up with a book in front of floor to ceiling windows and an ocean view, or borrow books to take to their cabin. Guests can check emails or surf the Web in the ship's Internet cafe. Classes are offered throughout the cruise on topics that range from ballroom dancing to learning to fold towels and washcloths into animal shapes.

    Entertainment

    • The casino on the "Jewel" is open anytime the ship is in motion and has slot machines and a wide range of gaming tables. Nightly shows take place in the 1,000-plus-seat Stardust Theatre, which spans two floors and has a huge stage that hosts musical and dance revues, comedy, juggling and magic shows, among others. Several lounges throughout the ship offer live music at different times and two nightclubs feature dancing each night.

    Kids Activities

    • The "Jewel" is one of two Norwegian ships that offers kids entertainment activities with Nickelodeon characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer. The characters play games with kids at the Sapphire Kid's Pool, which features slides and a shallow pool. The Sapphire pool is for all guests and has a giant winding slide and hot tubs. Kids can also play games in the video arcade and play in the Splashdown Kid's Club, which has an obstacle course and jungle gym.
