Freedom has a gross tonnage of over 154,000, a total length of 1,112 feet and a beam width of just over 183 feet. The ship was launched in June 2006 and has a top speed of 21.6 knots. The ship holds a maximum of 3,634 passengers based on double occupancy, with a 4,375 person maximum.
Freedom of the Seas is powered by two 360-degree rotating propeller pods and one stationary propeller pod attached to six V-12 diesel-electric turbines generating a total of 75,600 kilowatts of power. The ship also has four bow thrusters for increased maneuverability.
Freedom of the Seas has a variety of onboard amenities for adults and children. The ship features outdoor attractions including a sports court, rock climbing wall, 9-hole mini golf course, swimming pools, three Jacuzzis, a jogging track, H2O zone water park and the only surf park at sea.
The ship features indoor attractions including the Chefmakers Cooking Academy, a full-service spa and fitness center, Royal Promenade events center, ice skating rink, Casino Royale, Everlast full-size boxing ring, DreamWorks Experience and Wi-Fi Internet access throughout.
Entertainment options include shows in the La ScalaTheater, parades through the Royal Promenade and ice shows in Studio B. The ship also features special theme night events, a library, and the Seven of Hearts Card Room, where games can be borrowed and played.
Freedom of the Seas has four restaurants to choose from including Johnny Rockets American and Portofino Italian Restaurant. Three meals per day are served at the Lido buffet and at the opera-themed main restaurant.
You are free to choose from all other restaurants for additional cost. Seven lounges are located throughout the ship including Boleros Latin Lounge, the Bull & Bear Pub and the Champagne Bar. There are kids-only venues as well as the teens-only Fuel Nightclub, the outdoor Back Deck recreation area and the teens-only Living Room Lounge.
Freedom of the Seas is registered to the Bahamas. Its home port is Port Canaveral, Florida, since it is based there most of the year. Freedom of the Seas is used mostly for Caribbean itineraries and fluctuates between eastern and western routes throughout the year.
The typical Eastern Caribbean itinerary will depart from and return to Port Canaveral and includes stops in Coco Cay, Bahamas (Royal Caribbean Line's private island); Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; and Philipsburg, St Maarten.
The Western Caribbean itinerary is also based in Port Canaveral and includes stops at Labadee (Royal Caribbean Line's private island); Falmouth, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico. All itineraries are valid as of March 2011.
