Does an ATV require a license plate in Ohio?

In the state of Ohio, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are required to have a valid license plate. The license plate must be properly displayed on the rear of the ATV and must be visible from a distance of at least 50 feet. ATVs that are operated on public roads must also have a valid registration sticker.

Ohio law defines an ATV as any three-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicle that is designed for off-road use and that has a seat or saddle for the operator. ATVs are not considered to be motor vehicles, and they are therefore not subject to the same licensing and registration requirements as automobiles. However, ATVs must still be registered with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and must have a valid license plate.
