How to Register a Small Trailer in Kansas

In Kansas, the Department of Revenue is responsible for the registering of all vehicles. To register a small trailer in the state, go to the nearest branch of the state agency and request the needed forms for your trailer, or download the forms online and then go to the branch to complete the process. You cannot register the trailer for the first time online.

      Obtain a copy of form TR-212a (see Resources) either online or at the local branch of the Kansas Department of Revenue.

      Fill the form out completely and honestly, and bring it to the KDoR. Present it to the clerk along with your driver's license, registration fee and proof of ownership.

      Get the plates and stickers from the KDoR, and mount them on the trailer.
