How to Rent an RV in Europe

You may think RVs are only good for the large roads and highways of America. Think again! RVs are one of the best ways to see the majestic wilderness areas of Europe. With an RV, you can get off-the-beaten path and interact with European culture in a way few tourists can. Imagine being lulled to sleep by the soothing waves of the Mediterranean Sea just feet away from your RV after a day of driving through the Swiss Alps. Talk about unforgettable memories!

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the exact dates of travel and the European countries that you want to visit. Be aware that there are many restrictions on RV travel to Eastern European countries as of Summer 2010. Check the rental policy of the company before reserving an RV. Research fares of several European companies that rent motor homes or compact campers online.

    • 2

Pay a down payment or security deposit at the time of reserving your RV. Depending on the company, you may pay a higher or a lower down payment or security deposit at the time of booking. Usually this fee is non-refundable.

    • 3

Pay the full rental fee at the correct deadlines several weeks before you actually pick up the RV. Check with the company to make sure you make all the payment deadlines. Many companies want you to pay the full rental fee weeks before you arrive but this policy varies by country.

    • 4

Verify the pick-up time and location of your RV with the company a week in advance.

    • 5

Bring proof of insurance, a driver's license, foreign passport, and a major credit card to the RV pick-up location. Be prepared to watch a brief DVD about handling an RV and sign a renter's contract for the RV.
