How to Fix an RV Window That Rattles

As RVs age, the windows on them may get loose and start to rattle. Air and rain may begin leaking in; water can cause damage behind the walls of the interior, while outside air can make your furnace work harder in the winter and your air conditioner work harder in the summer. Replacing the weatherstripping and applying new sealant may solve your problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify your "problem" window. From inside the RV, unscrew the window. Have an assistant outside hold the window, making sure it does not fall out.

    • 2

Remove the window. Use a putty knife to remove all old sealant. Pull on the old weatherstripping to release the adhesive; remove the weatherstripping.

    • 3

Measure the window frame to determine how much new weatherstripping you'll need. Cut an appropriately sized piece with a knife or scissors.

    • 4

Attach the weatherstripping where the old weatherstripping used to be.

    • 5

Use a caulking gun to apply fresh sealant around the window frame. Put the window in place and screw it back in.
