How to Replace an RV Window

RV windows are a necessity not only for light, but they also make the RV feel more airy and roomy. You can get windows that are tinted; some open and close; and some are dual or thermopanes that help insulate the RV. There are many options to think about when picking out replacement windows. These include whether you want your windows to open or not, and if so do you want them to slide or open out? Replacing windows can improve the quality or your RV and can be done as a do-it-yourself project.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height and width of the window to make sure the new window will fit in its place. Also measure the new window.

    • 2

Remove the rubber trim around the window from the outside. Start by cutting one corner with a utility knife and pulling up around the entire window.

    • 3

Unscrew the window from inside the RV. Push the bottom out just enough to be able to grasp the window from the outside. Remove the window from the frame.

    • 4

Remove the old sealant using a plastic scraper. Be sure to get all the sealant from around the entire window frame.

    • 5

Wash off the window frame with a mild soap and water solution to remove all the sealant.

    • 6

Air dry the window frame overnight.

    • 7

Apply sealant in place of the old sealant using a silicone-based product.

    • 8

Place the new window in the frame. Be sure it is set in the sealant and completely pushed into the frame.

    • 9

Screw the window back in from the inside. Clear all fingerprints with a window cleaner.

    • 10

Replace the rubber trim around the window by pushing down along the frame with the utility knife or plastic scraper.
