How to Restore & Repair an RV

With proper maintenance, an RV can last for years. Over time RVs should be upgraded to operate more efficiently. This not only makes an RV appear nicer, but it also adds value to the unit. RVs are like humans -- the older they get the more they need a face lift. Humans get wrinkles, and RVs get dents and scratches. Help keep your RV looking young.

Instructions

    • 1

Crawl under the RV, and replace any plastic wire wraps that hold the wiring harness out of the way. Cut the old ones using a utility knife, and replace by tying around the wiring and slipping through the hole. Pull tightly so they stay tight.

    • 2

Color any scratches inside the RV with a staining crayon. Make sure the crayon matches the color of the wood it is being used on.

    • 3

Maintain the engine. Keep up on the oil changes in both the generator and engine. This keeps everything running smoothly and increases your mileage.

    • 4

Replace lightbulbs with energy efficient bulbs such as LED or fluorescent lights. Most fixtures can accommodate these bulbs as well as regular lightsbulbs. Otherwise, you need to unscrew the fixture, disconnect the wires and replace with an LED or fluorescent light fixture.

    • 5

Change your headlight to halogen bulbs to improve night driving visibility. Remove the lens by unscrewing and popping off the lightbulb case. Take out the old lightbulb, and screw in a new one. Replace the lens.
