How to Replace an RV Window Seal

Windows are an important feature of your RV. They provide free light and a feeling of space. Some open to provide better ventilation. There is no better feeling than sitting in your RV watching a storm move across the horizon over the mountains or lakes. However, if the windows leak it could damage or destroy the interior. Replacing window seals is the easiest way to avoid this problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the window you are working on from the inside of the RV. Push on the window so there is enough for someone to grab from the outside.

    • 2

Remove the window from outside the RV. Grab from the bottom and pull towards you. Place on the ground, in a safe place it will not be broken.

    • 3

Scrape off the old sealant completely using a plastic scraper.

    • 4

Wash the area where the old sealant was with mild soap and water. Allow the area to air dry.

    • 5

Apply the new sealant. Silicone sealant works best because it protects the window from mother nature's potential damage.

    • 6

Reinstall the window with caution placing pressure mostly on the center of the window.

    • 7

Check to make sure all areas around the window are sealed. Any mishaps could lead to leakage in the future.

    • 8

Apply a rubber trim over the sealant for extra protection.
