How to Replace Camper Shell Windows

Camper shells fit over truck beds, giving travelers a place to sleep and have a bit of privacy. One way to make the area seem more spacious is to have windows on the camper shell. Camper shell windows can start to leak when they get old. They can cloud up or crack; replacing them can be a nice do-it-yourself project.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the window and order a replacement window from your local RV supply store. You will also need the frame kit to fit the new window.

    • 2

Unscrew the window from inside the camper shell with a screw driver. Push out to get the window loose. Have the assistant outside the camper shell to hold the window to prevent it from falling out.

    • 3

Remove the inside window frame. Scrape off old caulking and sealant on the outside of the window using the putty knife.

    • 4

Put new putty tape inside the window opening and put the new window frame into position.

    • 5

Screw the frame into position. Have your assistant hold the window in place to prevent it from falling out.

    • 6

Squirt a 1/4-inch line of silicone caulk around the window. Wipe the caulk with a wet finger, pressing the caulk into the creases. Allow the caulk to dry for a day.
