How to Troubleshoot the AC on the Roof of a 1995 Fleetwood RV

Fleetwood RVs are no longer manufactured, but for older models they are comparable to Winnebagos in popularity. These units are often equipped with roof top air conditioners as well as dash units. Periodically, it is necessary to clean the AC to prevent operational problems. Dirt can reduce airflow severely. When not in use for a couple of weeks or if it is in storage, keep the air conditioner covered. Fortunately, many problems with the AC are a simple fix.

Instructions

    • 1

Replace the fuses in the fuse box. A blown fuse can cause a number of electrical problems and prevent the air conditioning from running.

    • 2

Check that the connections between the roof and ceiling unit are tight. If they are not, push them in and ensure they are connected.

    • 3

Check the voltage on the battery. The voltage should read 13.4. If it is not this high, the battery may need to be charged or replaced.

    • 4

Clean the air conditioner and filters with canned air if the unit does not cool the RV down. The filters may also need to be replaced.

    • 5

Use the ohmmeter to check that the on/off switch is getting power to it. Spin the motor shaft to see if it turns freely. If it doesn't, the unit needs to be replaced.
