Coleman Camper Lights Troubleshooting

Coleman is a well-known name in the camping industry because of the quality and variety of products available. Inside an RV, are a number of appliances and tools bearing the name Coleman. Coleman lights are a luxury inside an RV. Every RVer appreciates lights for reading and cooking. But Coleman camper lights can burn out or stop glowing. You can troubleshoot the problem in a number of ways.
  1. No or Low Light

    • If there is no light coming from the Coleman camper lights try replacing the bulb. Check the owner's manual for the exact light bulb needed because it varies from model to model. Also check the camper's battery. If the battery is dead it may be failing to run the lights in the unit or only running them dimly. Use an ohm-meter to determine if the battery's voltage is high enough. If the light is dim, clean or replace the lens cover. On fluorescent lights, be sure that the wiring is properly hooked up and that the light tubes do not need to be replaced.

    Black Tube End

    • If the end of the fluorescent lighting is turning black, check the battery voltage using an ohm-meter. Make sure all the connections to the battery are properly wired as well. Too much voltage or the wrong connections can cause the battery to overheat or explode. Another option is to replace the light tubes. Check the owner's manual for proper instructions based on your model.

    Ballast Failure

    • Check the ballast connected from the light to the battery and electricity. The ballast controls how much electricity goes to and from the light and can burn out. Check to see how much voltage is going from the power converter to the light and if the battery is charged properly. Look to see if the light tubes are black and need replacing. Also consult your owner's manual and check that all wires are properly connected.
