RV Black Water Tank Removal

Almost all RVs have three holding tanks. One each for freshwater, gray water (which is water from the sinks and shower) and black water. The black water tank holds waste water from the toilet. When traveling, the gray and black water tanks must be emptied at special dumping stations. It is illegal to dump them onto the ground. There are certain techniques to dumping the waste water without making a mess.
  1. Hoses

    • Connect the hose to the 3-inch dump pipe. Next place the other end of the hose into the dumping station's deposit. This will be clearly marked and vary from station to station. Place something heavy on top of the end that is stuck into the sewer so it doesn't pop out of the hole, this could cause a big mess.

    Levers

    • Pull the black valve on the hose and the sewage will go down the drain. On some RVs these valves are marked by pictures, so you know which is which, or you can consult your owner's manual. Once all of the black water waste is dumped, open the valve for the gray water to flush out any remaining sediment from the black water tank. Remember always ave the valves open when you're doing the flushing. Shut the valves when done flushing.

    Chemicals

    • Disconnect the hose and flush it out with water from the dump station. Make sure the water is flushed down the drain and that you do not use the fresh water hose to do this. Then, put the hose and connectors away and go inside, and add seven to 10 gallons of water in the toilet to keep the waste wet. Add your deodorizing chemicals. Wash your hands when done.
