How to Kill Mold in Campers

A camper is susceptible to mold growth both inside and out. Any surface that is exposed to moisture and high levels of humidity may become infested with mold. Mold on a camper is both unsightly and a potential health hazard. The Environmental Protection Agency notes that mold exposure has been linked to a variety of symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Killing mold on a camper will reduce those health risks and keep the camper looking good.

Instructions

  1. Killing Mold on Exterior of Camper

    • 1

Fill an empty spray bottle with water. Dampen any areas on the exterior of the camper where mold is present. Moisten the areas prior to mold removal to reduce the number of mold spores released during cleaning. Look for mold especially on the siding and any canvassed areas of the camper.

    • 2

Use a scrub brush to remove any loose mold. Scrub the molded surfaces briskly with the dry scrub brush.

    • 3

Place a few squirts of dish soap into a bucket. Fill the bucket with hot water.

    • 4

Dip a scrub brush into the bucket of soapy water. Scrub down the molded areas of the camper with the brush.

    • 5

Rinse the camper with plain water from a garden hose. Work in sections if the mold is severe and covers a large surface area. Do not allow the soap to dry onto the camper.

    • 6

Discard the bucket of soapy water. Rinse out the bucket well.

    • 7

Fill the bucket with 1 gallon of hot water. Add 8 oz. of oxygen bleach to the water.

    • 8

Scrub the surface with the oxygen bleach and a scrub brush. Allow the solution to sit on the camper for 5 to 10 minutes to kill any remaining mold spores.

    • 9

Rinse the camper with the garden hose. Allow the surface to air dry.

Killing Mold on the Interior of a Camper

    • 10

Remove as much loose mold as possible. Lightly mist the molded surfaces with water. Scrub the surfaces with a dry scrub brush.

    • 11

Place a few squirts of dish soap into a bucket. Fill the bucket with hot water.

    • 12

Scrub carpet, upholstery, countertops, floors, wood and any other molded surface with a rag and the soapy water. Rinse the rag frequently to avoid reapplying the mold to the surface.

    • 13

Fill another bucket with plain hot water. Rinse the surfaces with a clean rag and the plain water. Rinse out the rag frequently.

    • 14

Fill a spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar. Spray the molded surfaces with the vinegar. Allow it to sit on the surface for several minutes.

    • 15

Rinse the vinegar with a rag and plain water. Allow the surface to air dry.
