Dinner Ideas for Motorhome Traveling

Traveling by motorhome can be an excellent way to see many areas of a country. A motorhome can provide the traveler with all the comforts of home while on the road. Many motorhomes come equipped with a small kitchen that may include a microwave, refrigerator and even a stove. Take advantage of this by creating dinners that can feed the whole family.
  1. Car Picnic

    • A picnic need not be outdoors to be fun. Hold a picnic for dinner in your motorhome. Picnics can be quickly cleaned up and utilize foods that won't fall out of your hands if the RV makes a sudden turn. If you have a dining table in the motorhome, top it with a gingham cloth and a vase of flowers. Purchase or make macaroni and potato salad. Serve sandwiches such as ham and cheese. Fried chicken can also be served hot or cold. Accompany the meal with bean salad and a slice of pie or cake.

    Local Ingredients

    • Travelers should take advantage of the foods they encounter along their route. Create a meal centered around fresh ingredients found nearby. Pull up beside a farmers market or local grocery store. Look for fresh produce, cheese native to a specific region and even game caught regionally. Steam corn right from the fields. Serve chicken salad on bread from a baker. Finish the meal with fruit from local orchards or pie made by hand from a farmers market.

    Pasta Night

    • Making pasta in a motorhome is both quick and easy. If you have a hot plate or small stove boil up two kinds of pasta. Offer family members a choice of tomato sauce, meat sauce or pesto to top the pasta. Make homemade garlic bread by rubbing slices of French or Italian bread with butter and garlic and then running under a broiler for a minute or two.

    In-Home Clambake

    • Clambakes are clam dinners served in many parts of New England and along the East Coast. A clambake can be an ideal way to sample fresh seafood if you are traveling near beaches. A typical clambake incorporates many types of seafood into a single pot. Duplicate this process in your motorhome by steaming different types of seafood. Use locally available items such as clams, scallops, lobsters and shrimp. Serve with corn on the cob, baked potatoes and blueberry pie.
