How to Caulk an RV Rubber Roof

The roof is one of the areas that takes the most beating on an RV. The sun can dry it out. Rain, wind and hail can cause tears or dents. Ultimately, this can also cause leaks. If left unattended, leaks can damage the RV's interior. Regardless of how handy you are, anyone can replace the caulk that seals the roof to fix the leak. This will save you hundreds on a repair bill.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Climb up on the roof of the RV using the ladder. Use caution and stay as far away from the edge as possible when moving around.

    • 2

Remove all the old caulking along the roof, using the scraper or putty knife. Dig in between the roof and the walls of the unit. Be careful to not cut the roof.

    • 3

Brush off all the debris from removing the old caulk. Make sure you removed all of it.

    • 4

Apply the new caulking using a caulk gun or squeezing the tube. This will vary based on the caulk you purchase.

    • 5

Smooth the caulk with the plastic scraper and allow to air-dry.
