How to Treat a Rubber RV Roof

An RV made in the last few years will probably have a rubber roof rather than the metal roof that would have been common in the past. The rubber that is used on these roofs is called Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) and was created specifically for roofing. If you treat your rubber RV roof properly and perform the proper maintenance it should last well over 20 years.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid using any type of roof protecting chemicals on a rubber RV roof. They are not designed for those types of products.

    • 2

Wash the rubber RV roof four times a year. Never use petroleum-based cleaners or any type of harsh abrasive; all manufacturer's of rubber RV roofs do approve the use of a mild detergent.

    • 3

Apply 303 Aerospace Protectant when you wash the roof to make future cleaning easier and help prevent stains to your rubber RV roof.

    • 4

Check all seals and seams on the rubber roof during each cleaning. Apply a silicone sealer to any of the seals that appear to be cracking or damaged.
