How to Troubleshoot Camper AC-DC Converters

Having a power converter in your RV will not only change your camping lifestyle, it will change 120 volts (AC) to 12 volts (DC). This means any electrical equipment can be used on 12 volts (DC). This is a good thing to have if you plan on doing any dry camping. If something goes wrong, you will want to fix it right away, so you're not left in the dark.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the battery to make sure it is good. Sometimes this is the most simple, but often overseen, problem.

    • 2

Check to see that the incoming current to the converter is from 103 to 130 volts AC. If it is at any other level, it could ruin the converter or anything else it is running through.

    • 3

Look on the converter to make sure the polarity isn't reversed. If it is, you need to adjust it.

    • 4

Look to see whether all the connections are dry, cleaned and tightened.

    • 5

Analyze the system closely. Carefully consider it from every different angle.
