How to Do an Oil Change in a Yamaha XT225

The Yamaha XT225 is a motorcycle with a 233 cc, four-stroke single engine. It's equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and disc and drum brakes. While XT225 owners can take their bike to a mechanic for routine oil changes, they can also perform the procedure at home, saving money and perhaps learning about basic motorcycle maintenance and repair. Changing the oil in a Yamaha bike involves the use of only a few supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the bike on a level surface with the kickstand down. Ensure the engine is cool before starting work.

    • 2

Place the bucket under the oil drain plug. Use the wrench to loosen the plug, remove it by hand, and let the oil drain completely into the bucket. Clean the plug with a rag and put it back in place.

    • 3

Place the bucket under the filter. Unscrew and remove the old oil filter by hand. Allow any residual oil to drain into the bucket.

    • 4

Open the new oil and rub a small amount around the rim of the oil filter. Take the new oil and rub it around the rim of the oil filter. Pour a small amount of new oil into the new filter and screw on the new filter. The oil will help seal the filter to the XT225.

    • 5

Measure the current oil level with the dipstick. Add more oil until the dipstick indicates it is filled to the correct level. Dispose of the old oil properly.
