Train Tours with NSW

The New South Wales (NSW) Rail Corporation is a government-owned rail system that operates the CityRail and CountryLink services. With two types of trains (the aerodynamic XPT and the traditional XPLORER, it provides rail service for approximately 2 million passengers a year to more than 365 destinations in NSW, Queensland and Victoria. The CountryLink portion offers a number of tours that include round-trip rail transportation, hotel accommodations and admission to a number of tourist attractions.
  1. NSW North Coast

    • CountryLink offers several tours in the New South Wales' north coast region and round-trip economy rail travel. The highlighted tours include: Port Stephens Paradise --four-day tour including dolphin cruise, 4WD tour of the beaches and wine tasting in Hunter Valley) -- an eight-day Northern River Rover Tour of coastline, rainforests and rivers and the six-day Best of the Holiday Coast based in Port Macquarie.

      As of October 2010, CountryLink offers three daily XPT trains to the north coast and each package also includes station transfers, meals, and tours. The tour prices vary by season (low, middle and high), type of package and choice of accommodations that range from three-star to four-star luxury hotels.

    Country NSW

    • CountryLink provides a variety of excursions into the country side of New South Wales that includes round-trip economy rail travel and bed and breakfast or hotel accommodations. Tours include Golden West, a three-day tour of the farmlands and wineries of central-west New South Wales; Riverina Short Break , a three-day excursion into the historic towns of Junee and Temora and New England Discovery, a five-day trip with a focus on national parks.

    Outback NSW

    • CountryLink provides a variety of journeys into the Australian Outback that include round-trip economy rail transportation and hotel accommodations. Packages include Outback Break, six days based in Broken Hill; Flinders Ranges Farm Experience six days in the Flinders Rangers region with one overnight stay at a sheep ranch and the Corner Country and Birdsville Adventure, a 10-day package that includes 4WD tours that covers Cameron Corner to the Strezlecki and Birdsville tracks. The Broken Hill Outback XPLORER train departs weekly from Sydney to Broken Hill while the XPT train to Dubbo is daily with a connection at Broken Hill.

    Canberra and the South

    • Tours of Melbourne include downtown shopping.

      CountryLink tours into Canberra and the south include round-trip economy travel on XPLORER trains and hotel accommodations that range from three-to four-stars. They include: Outlet Shopping Tours a one-day shopping tour of Melbourne and the Discover Bright and the Alps, a tour of northeast Victoria. The XPLORER departs Sydney twice a day from Sydney to Canberra.
