Alaska Railway Tours

Operated by Gray Line of Alaska, Alaska Rail Tours offers travel between Talkeetna, Denali National Park, Anchorage and Fairbanks. Rail Tours offers travelers the opportunity to design their own tours, while providing professional narration of the sights.
  1. History

    • With the introduction of the Alaska Railroad in 1923, the train became a popular method of travel. In 1947, the domed railway cars that became the model for Alaska Rail Tours were introduced in Illinois.

    Narration

    • The tour offers professional narration about the Alaska railroad route. Narration is GPS-triggered and accompanied by the Rail Manager's live presentation.

    Decks

    • Railroad cars feature two decks. The upper deck holds the main seating area as well as a small bar, while the lower deck offers dining service, restrooms, an open-air platform and a souvenir shop.

    • Alaska Railway Tour's website allows travelers to design their own tour, including options for routes, hotels and sightseeing.
