How do I Use BritRail?

BritRail is a network of railways around the British Isles that allows visitors to travel in different regions of the two islands---or the entirety of them---at any time without purchasing individual tickets for each destination. You can further customize the pass by choosing flexible access, which allows you to use trains on two days out of eight, four days out of eight or seven days out of 15. Some passes include free access to historical sites, regional rails or airport transit.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to BritRail's website at www.britrail.com to book a ticket.

    • 2

Click on "Passes" to see the selections of different regions in the UK and Ireland. Book a pass to travel in England, Scotland, Great Britain, Southern England or the whole of the British Isles, including the UK and Ireland. You can also purchase point-to-point tickets for traveling to and from one location on specific days. This ticket type locks you into traveling on a booked date but not at any particular time. It also allows you to make stops en route to your destination, get off and get on another train later.

    • 3

Choose your pass and follow the steps necessary to purchase the ticket.

    • 4

Take your BritRail pass, which is mailed to you in a ticket jacket, on your British trip with you.

    • 5

Take your ticket to a rail station ticket window on the first day you wish to travel. The station agent will stamp your ticket. If you have chosen a "Flexible" option, the station agent will punch or initial a check-box in your ticket to validate your day of travel.

    • 6

Hop on and off any train you wish during the valid period. If you have a Flexible pass, you will need the station agent to punch or sign your ticket on each day that you wish to use it.
