How to Move & Adjust a Motorcycle Seat

Adjusting the seat of a motorcycle up and down can widely affect the quality and safety of the ride. Moving the seat to a more comfortable position will ensure a better feel throughout the ride, and moving the seat for a better riding angle can improve visibility. Use a ratchet set on the back bolts of the underside of the seat to loosen the sliding mechanism and allow the seat to be adjusted for better comfort.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the seat of the motorcycle as far as possible if the seat has a hinged cargo area underneath. Use the ratchet to loosen the two bolts that keep the seat attached to the hinge. Loosen all four bolts if the seat is a normal stationary seat.

    • 2

Loosen the bolt on the now exposed sliding seat bracket. Slide the bracket straight up for more height or down for less height. Slide the bracket forward and backward (on some models) for different positioning. Tighten the bolts back on the sliding bracket.

    • 3

Replace the seat and tighten the two or four bolts (depending on the model). Sit on the seat and test the placement. Take the bike for a ride for about a half hour and then park back in the work area. Continue to adjust the seat until the best position is found.
