* Employers must pay tipped employees at least the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. If tips do not bring their hourly wage up to $7.25 per hour, the employer must make up the difference.
* Automatic gratuity: Many restaurants in Utah charge an automatic gratuity to large parties. This gratuity is typically between 15% and 20%.
* Take-out orders: Utah state law requires restaurants to charge customers a fee for take-out orders if they are not paying a gratuity. The fee must be at least 5% of the subtotal of the order.
