If you plan to celebrate Oktoberfest in Munich, you can find better deals if you move beyond the city center. Munich has great public transportation. A commuter train runs until 1 a.m., and there are ample cabs available as well. The Marienplatz/Viktualienmarkt area offers hotels for a reasonable average rate for the season of about $200 per night. The Marriott Munich, in the Marienplatz area, is just a few train stops from the city center and the fairgrounds, the hub of Oktoberfest activity.

Stuttgart is a smaller town in Germany that boasts the second-largest celebration. The People's Festival is just a short train ride from Munich. Stuttgart also has a good transit system. Millennium Hotel is one of the better hotels in the area, just outside of town but very close to the train station, with a rate of around $200.

The most important part of finding lodging for Oktoberfest is being aware that the hotels fill up quickly. Book ahead so you still have choices between the lower-priced hotels. Using public transportation is also a great way to save money.
