Bed-and-Breakfast Inns in Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, an important seaport in Georgia, was once the colonial capital of the province of Georgia. Savannah attracts thousands of visitors every year, and in 2010, more than 300,000 tourists visited the city for St. Patrick's Day, reports the city's official website. Many visitors come to Savannah to see its architecture and historic buildings, some of which are now used as bed-and-breakfast inns.
  1. Bed-and-Breakfast Inns

    • The Independent Presbyterian Church is located in Savannah's historic district.

Taking advantage of its history and architecture, many of the owners of Victorian and older mansions in Savannah's historic district have converted their stately homes into bed-and-breakfast inns. Central Savannah contains more than 12 such accommodations. The owners have altered the interiors of the homes to offer a number of guest rooms, each with a private bathroom, period furnishings and antiques. The inns offer a Southern-style full breakfast, and many inns also feature a complimentary afternoon tea with cookies and evening snacks or hors d'oeuvres.

    Historic District North

    • You'll find a number of inns in Savannah's Historic District North, which is north of Oglethorpe Avenue. The Olde Harbour Inn on River Street, a pet-friendly establishment that dates to 1892, overlooks the Savannah River. The East Bay Inn, built in 1852, serves breakfast in its cafe but also has its own Skylers Restaurant for dining; the restaurant serves both lunch and dinner. The Presidents' Quarters Inn, which dates to around 1855, is in the same area on Oglethorpe Square. Kehoe House, a Queen Anne-style mansion that many people think is haunted, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

    Historic District South

    • Savannah's Historic District South is home to bed-and-breakfast inns. You can find the Hamilton-Turner inn among the azaleas, magnolias and oak trees of Lafayette Square; it offers 17 suites and guest rooms. The Savannah Bed and Breakfast Inn is a colonial-style mansion within a 2-minute walk of Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room. The nearby Gastonian Bed and Breakfast Inn consists of two adjoining Regency-style mansions, both built in 1868.

    Dining

    • Many of Savannah's best restaurants are located in the Historic District North region of the city near the Savannah River. In this region you'll find the Olde Pink House Restaurant, the Pirates' House Restaurant, Paula Deen's Lady and Sons, the Moon River Brewing Co. and the Exchange Tavern & Restaurant. In the Historic District South area, you can dine at Elizabeth on 37th and Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room. The city has many other restaurants that feature different cuisines.
