Camping in Peach Springs, Arizona

Peach Springs sits along U.S. Route 66 in northern Arizona, just south of the Grand Canyon. The town, which is located on the Hualapai Indian Reservation, is about 150 miles southwest of Grand Canyon Village, the main tourist location near the canyon's Southern Rim. Peach Springs' proximity to the Grand Canyon and the dozens of miles of hiking trails that surround the area, make it an ideal place for outdoor recreation, including tent and RV camping.

Instructions

    • 1

Head to Grand Canyon Caverns in Peach Springs, where you'll find sites for tent camping. For a more unusual camping experience, Grand Canyon Caverns also rents open-air "rooms," which are elevated platforms with a bed, table, short walls and no ceilings.

    • 2

Reserve a spot at Grand Canyon Caverns RV Park if you're looking to do some RV camping. The area's only RV campground has 50 sites with full hookups, as well as a heated outdoor swimming pool, on 800 acres.

    • 3

Drive north of downtown Peach Springs for about 16 miles on Indian Reservation Route 6, to where Diamond Creek meets the Colorado River. Here, in Peach Springs Canyon---a small branch of the Grand Canyon---you'll find remote sites for tent camping and a small beach alongside the creek.

Bring appropriate gear and equipment for remote camping at Diamond Creek, which lacks campground facilities and is relatively secluded. The access road is bumpy and unpaved, so you'll probably want a vehicle with four-wheel drive, and you'll need essentials such as food, matches, water purification tablets, toilet paper and warm clothing for night time.
