The campgrounds are located 10 miles west of Munising, Michigan, in the heart of the Hiawatha National Forest, which is 4 miles south of Au Train, Michigan, on FR-H-03 and east on FR 2278. Michigan recently has renamed its roads: FR means forest road, then the number or alphabetical designation.
The Au Train Lake Campground offers 37 rustic camping sites with picnic tables and fire pits. Campers and their canine companions can canoe from the campground across the lake and down the Au Train River to Lake Superior. A swimming beach and boat ramp are in place for use by campers.
