How did camp green lake differ from Stanley idea of camp?
Stanley had never been to camp before, so he pictured a traditional summer camp with fun activities, sports, swimming, and campfires. However, Camp Green Lake was a very different place. It was a juvenile detention center located in a hot, dry desert, and the boys were forced to work long hours digging holes every day. There were no fun activities, and the camp was surrounded by a tall barbed-wire fence. The boys lived in tents and were constantly monitored by the camp counselors. Stanley found Camp Green Lake to be a very harsh and unforgiving place, very different from the camp he had imagined.
