Sonestown is a tiny community located off U.S. Highway 220 in a remote region in north-central Pennsylvania, west of Scranton in the Appalachian Mountains. It is situated near Loyalsock State Forest, an area that provides plenty of options for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. The community is also home to Aaron Kelly, who finished in fifth place on Season 9 of the reality singing show American Idol. The area has a number of lodging options.

    • Eagles Mere Inn is located close to Sonestown in the Poconos Mountains area. Guests can quickly get to local state parks, such as Rickett's Glen State Park, Nescopeck State Park and Loyalsock State Forest, which are all just a short drive away. Nearby Lake Jean offers fishing, swimming and boating. Or, you can check out the Loyalsock Trail, which is 60 miles long and offers opportunities for kayaking, camping and hiking. The area is also home to Canyon Vista and High-Knob Overlook, which offers good views of the Loyalsock Valley.

    Cherry Mills Lodge

    • You can check out the Cherry Mills Lodge on the Little Loyalsock Creek, a bed and breakfast established at the end of the Civil War in 1865. As of January 2011, the lodge is run by a family of six who moved away from major Pennsylvania cities to enjoy the country life. The lodge offers a number of rooms that hold between two and five people. For the relaxation and comfort of its guests, it also features a fireplace suite, which includes a living room and a fireplace. A few local wineries are just minutes from the lodge, including Bird Song Winery and Laddsburg Mountain Winery.
