The small town of Bon Aqua, 42 miles west of Nashville, was once the home of Tennessee's largest retreat and health spa, the Bon Aqua Springs Resort. Situated on four mineral springs, the resort included a hotel that burned to the ground in 1888. It was replaced by a new, 101-room hotel, which was dismantled in 1945 after the popularity of bathing in mineral springs as a treatment for various ailments declined. Today, there are no operating hotels in Bon Aqua, but there are several lodging options within a short drive.
Located about 18 miles south-southwest of Bon Aqua in Centerville, Tennessee, the Grinder's Switch Inn is one of a few independent motels in Hickman County. The older nine-room inn is a short walk from the Centerville Public Square and offers basic rooms with private bathrooms, wireless Internet access, cable TV, refrigerators and microwaves.
Nearby attractions include a historic rail switch that is still in use today and the 110-acre Grinder's Switch Winery. Several restaurants such as Breece's Cafe, which offers traditional Southern food and homemade pies, are within walking distance. Pets are allowed with a cleaning fee.
The Fairview Inn & Suites is an independently-owned two-story hotel about 17 miles east of Bon Aqua in Fairview. Its location on Interstate 40 makes the drive to Bon Aqua convenient, and there are several restaurants less than a block away.
The hotel offers a complimentary hot breakfast and a variety of modern amenities, including an indoor pool, outdoor pool, hot tub and wireless Internet access in the lobby and in some rooms. Pets are not permitted.
The town of Dickson is about 11 miles north of Bon Aqua and has several national chain hotels. The Days Inn is less expensive than most similar hotels and is located within a block of several fast food and casual dining restaurants. A complimentary continental breakfast includes hot waffles and there's an outdoor pool. Wireless Internet access is available, but the rooms are otherwise basic. Pets are allowed for a small fee.
Another national chain hotel in Dickson, the 62-room Hampton Inn, provides a more upscale experience. There's a pool, fitness room, business center, wireless Internet, handicapped accessible rooms, king beds, and some rooms contain whirlpool bathtubs.
