With pink granite mountains, white sandy beaches and a vast array of wildlife, the Freycinet Peninsula in Tasmania is awash with natural beauty. The Freycinet National Park occupies around half of the Peninsula and is dominated by the rugged peaks of the Hazards mountains. The tourist hub of Coles Bay sits at the entrance of the park and visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities arranged from here including hiking, fishing and sea kayaking.

The Bay Restaurant is located in the main lodge and serves fresh produce caught in the bay daily, from oysters to salmon. Richardson's Bistro is a more casual option for snacks throughout the day accompanied with fine Tasmanian wines and beers. As of 2011 prices start at around $240 with a minimum stay of two nights.

    Saffire

    • This boutique property overlooks Great Oyster Bay where migrating whales and dolphins can sometimes be seen. Built to be environmentally sustainable, the lodge utilizes conserved rain water and also takes care over bushfire management. It offers deluxe, luxury and premium suites; all designed to make the most of views of the Hazards and the Bay and furnished in a style that mixes the traditional with the contemporary. Saffire's restaurant Palate boasts panoramic views and serves fresh local produce including Freycinet Marine Farm oysters. Guests can also meet in The Lounge for a drink or to read a book by the fire. A deluxe suite at Saffire, as of 2011, costs from $1,237.

    Edge of the Bay Resort

    • Situated to the west of Coles Bay, and overlooking Great Oyster Bay, this resort is comprised of a selection of ocean suites and secluded cottages. All accommodations are designed to have a minimal impact on their surroundings, in keeping with the resort's eco-friendly approach The ocean view suites have private balconies to enjoy the view across the Bay to the Hazards and are built in a minimalist design, while the secluded cottages are described as a "spin on the quintessential Aussie beach shack." The Edge Restaurant located within the resort serves locally caught seafood but offers a dinner-only service. Free activities are also available including biking, fishing and tennis. As of 2011 rates start at $262.

    Friendly Beaches Lodge

    • Located amid the forests of the Freycinet National Park, the Friendly Beaches Lodge is intended as a base for the four-day Freycinet Experience Walk, which offers the chance for walkers to see the highlights of the Peninsula. The lodge has a communal dining and living areas and two sleeping lodges, each comprised of a number of double and twin rooms. Each sleeping lodge has its own additional shared living area, shared bathroom and eco-friendly composting toilets. Meals served at the lodge incorporate fresh local produce such as grain-fed beef and oysters. As of 2011 the four-day trip costs from $2,077 per person and includes transportation from Hobart.
