Lodging Near the West Glacier at Glacier National Park

Located in Glacier National Park, in northwest Montana, West Glacier is the last stop for gas, food and lodging before taking the Going-to-the-Sun Road, a scenic 50-mile drive through the interior of Glacier National Park. A few lodging options exist near West Glacier, including Apgar Village Lodge, Historic Tamarack Lodge & Cabins, and the Belton Chalet.

  1. Apgar Village Lodge

    • Apgar Village Lodge is located in Apgar, Montana, which is two miles north of West Glacier. The lodge possesses rustic cabins and motel rooms; all are non-smoking accommodations set amid the cedar forest. Cabins have cooking and food storage facilities, dishes and small appliances. Some of the cabins are steps from the southwestern shoreline of Lake McDonald. The lodge accepts reservations up to one year in advance and is open seasonally, May through September. There is a visitors' center, gift shop, store, boat rentals and cafe nearby.

    Historic Tamarack Lodge & Cabins

    • In addition to one- or two-bedroom cabins, the Historic Tamarack Lodge offers two lodge rooms to a single group in the main structure, which was built in 1907 and renovated in 2003. The year-round facility is located in Bad Rock Canyon, which is part of the Flathead National Forest, about 10 miles southwest of West Glacier.

      The rustic log lodge features handcrafted wooden headboards, lofts and wireless Internet access. The lodge is restricted to one group at a time because of a shared bathroom.

      Cabins feature kitchens, but complimentary breakfasts are provided from May to September. A gift shop, bike rentals and a library exist on-site.

    Belton Chalet

    • The Belton Chalet is a National Historic Landmark Hotel that is located in West Glacier. Built in 1910, the facility was restored 2000. The hotel offers a day spa, lobby with fireplace and a made-in-Montana gift shop. Standard guestrooms are basic, with a queen-size bed. Rooms do not have televisions or phones. The Honeymoon suite features a private balcony and claw-foot tub. Three-bedroom private cottages are available.

      The Belton Grill Dining Room specializes in cuisine created with local products, including fruit from the hotel's Flathead Lake orchard. Boxed lunches are available for guests planning to hike. The Tap Room serves a more casual menu, such as steak sandwiches and fish tacos.
