Conde Naste Traveler named Ocracoke Island, N.C., the "5th Best Beach in the World" in July 2009. Sitting along 16 miles of undeveloped beach on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Ocracoke has the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Pamlico Sound on the other. It is one of those rare places on the East Coast where the sun sets (and rises) over the water year-round. It's 100 miles from the Norfolk, Va. It is 16 miles of beach on the Outer Banks that is accessible only by ferry, private boat, or air. If you're vacationing in the area with the family pet, you'll find plenty of hotels in Ocracoke willing to accomodate you.
Pet-friendly Blackbeard's Lodge is Ocracoke Island's oldest hotel. Built in 1936, the hotel offers 38 rooms, suites and apartments, with kitchenettes, air conditioning, and satellite T.V. Some rooms include whirlpool baths. Blackbeard's Lodge features a pool, bicycle rental, and game room. The lobby sports a grand piano and wood-burning stove. Ocracoke offers world-class fishing, water sports, and dolphin tours, along some of the most beautiful beach on the east coast. Blackbeard the pirate once set up his base on Ocracoke, terrorizing trade on the high seas.
