Rend Lake is a 13-mile-long reservoir in southern Illinois. It was formed in 1962 when the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers dammed the Big Muddy River. Now, the lake draws many visitors for its fishing, boating and other water sports. Part of the 162-mile shoreline is maintained by the Wayne Fitzgerald State Recreation Area. Three resort lodging options are on Rend Lake.
Rend Lake Resort is part of the Wayne Fitzgerald State Recreation Area and includes "boatels," which are units that sit directly on the shoreline, where guests can fish off their private back decks. Cabins and standard hotel rooms are also available. Jacuzzis, fireplaces and wet bars are available in some units. The resort has an outdoor swimming pool, a children's pool, a nature trail and a conference and banquet center, as well as an on-site lounge, gift shop and restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other options at the resort include guided fishing and hunting outings and golf and romance packages.

Part of the Rend Lake Recreation Complex, Fairway Condominiums offer 22 units with either two bedrooms and two bathrooms or three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The condos can be rented for short-term or long-term stays. All units are fully furnished and include private patios or balconies, full kitchens and Jacuzzis. Pets are not allowed. Fairway Condominiums are located on the first fairway of the Rend Lake Golf Course. Guests have access to the North Marcum and South Sandusky public beaches on the lake. Gibby's on the Green offers indoor and outdoor dining and a lounge.

Another option in the Rend Lake Recreation Complex is Seasons Lodge, which features a large country front porch and rooms with optional fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. Free wireless Internet is available in designated areas. Other amenities at the Lodge include a seasonal outdoor pool, an outdoor hot tub with a gazebo and a bike trail. Guests can use the lodge bicycles free of charge. No pets are allowed on the property. Guests have access to the public beaches on Rend Lake as well as the 27-hole Rend Lake Golf Course. Stay and Play packages are available, which include a room, a golf cart and 18 holes of golf.
