Choke Canyon Reservoir, also called Yarbrough Lake, is part of the 26,000-acre Choke Canyon State Park located in southern Texas about 1 ½ hours from San Antonio. The lake is a popular destination for campers and fishers. Large mouth bass and catfish are the most common catches from the lake. The park provides several shelters and campsites with restrooms and showers. A special equestrian area is also available on the lake's northern shore. Several accommodation choices exist on or near the lake.
The Choke Canyon Lodge, completed in 2007, is situated just off the lake's shoreline and provides panoramic views of the surrounding area. Guests can choose from loft rooms that house two to six people in bunk beds and single rooms. Single rooms come with two full-, queen-, or king-sized beds and feature microwave, refrigerator, wide-screen satellite television and linens. Single room occupants also have an assigned covered boat stall. Guests can socialize and take in the vistas from the lodge's pavilion with gas grills, oven, refrigerator and more. Pets are not allowed.
