Toccoa, Georgia, was incorporated in 1875 and serves as the county seat of Stephens County. Traveler's Rest State Historic Site was a stagecoach plantation constructed in the 1830s and recognized as an historic landmark in the 1960s. Legend has it that the name of the town came from a Cherokee word meaning "beautiful." Toccoa Falls reach a height of 186 feet--10 feet higher than Niagara Falls. Tragedy struck in 1977 when a dam gave way and 39 members of Tocca Community College were killed where a memorial now stands.

The Simmons-Bond Inn was built as a private residence in 1903 by architect E Levi Prater--known for his designs in Gainesville, Georgia, and Athens, Georgia.
The house incorporates four oval spiderweb-leaded glass windows upstairs, four stained-glass windows in the dining room and a 7-foot stained-glass window lighting the grand staircase. The home was built for successful lumberman James Simmons. Later, Mrs. Simmons took in boarders years before the home became an inn.
The inn offers five bedrooms--varying in capacity and style. The Elizabeth can accommodate up to four people and has heart-pine floors, a fireplace and a king bed. The Tiffany will host up to three people and has a fireplace, queen bed, clawfoot tub/shower and antique bedroom suit. The Bethany welcomes up to three people with a queen-canopy bed, a desk, a study area and a fireplace. The Colleen accommodates two people with an African safari theme, a queen-canopy bed and a secret passage leading to the private bath. The Maria hosts two guests in a garden theme with a double bed and wall hangings.
All rooms have a private bath, a ceiling fan, a clock radio and a color TV. The Elizabeth, Tiffany and Bethany have air-conditioning. The Elizabeth and Bethany have tea, coffee and a complimentary full-course breakfast.
The inn is located near the antique mall, which offers fine shops and restaurants. Cycling, sailing, whitewater rafting, golf, fishing and bird-watching are only a few of the activities available in the area.
