The Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio State Parks system offer yurt camping in several of their parks, including Kelley's Island State Park on Lake Erie. Two waterfront yurts are available from mid-May to mid-October. Each sleeps six and has its own efficiency kitchen with cookware and dishes included. The park features a 100-foot public beach, kayak rentals and a one-mile hiking trail.
Salt Creek Retreats has cabin and yurt rentals available in the Hocking Hills region of Southeastern Ohio. Modern conveniences such as plumbing or electricity are not available in these more rustic structures. The vinyl-covered yurts are 16 feet in diameter and sleep four but can accommodate up to six people. There is also plenty of space for tents outside. Catch some rest in bunk beds, on a futon or even in an outdoor hammock. These yurts feature wooden floors, large windows and solar showers available in the summer.
Nomad Ridge at the Wilds offers a more sophisticated experience for adults only. Their Asian-themed yurts come with bamboo floors and sleep two. Twin, queen, and king beds are available, and accommodations include a private bathroom and a deck with scenic views. These vacation packages include breakfast and dinner prepared by a professional chef. Also included is a Safari transport or Open-Air Safari available over the Wilds to view endangered animals living in a natural habitat.
