RV Camping Near Hochatown, Oklahoma

Hochatown, located in McCurtain County in southeastern Oklahoma, lies north of the town of Broken Bow on the banks of Broken Bow Lake. Surrounded by Beavers Bend State Park and Hochatown State Park, Hochatown offers clear waters, tall trees and beautiful scenery, a perfect setting for tent and RV camping.
  1. History

    • According to "Ghost Towns of Oklahoma," the original town of Hochatown was settled by the Choctaw tribe and named for the Choctaw word for "river."

      Hochatown remained a Choctaw village until lumber and coal companies settled there in the early 1900s. Hochatown later became known for its hidden moonshine stills in the 1920s and '30.

      In the 1960s, the U.S. Army Cops of Engineers built the Broken Bow Lake Dam, thus creating Broken Bow Lake and forcing the failing town to relocate to its present settlement. The original town now lies under the waters of Broken Bow Lake.

    Beavers Bend State Resort Park

    • Beavers Bend State Park, Hochatown State Park, Lakeview Lodge and Cedar Creek Golf Course have become collectively known as Beavers Bend State Resort Park.

      Located along the Mountain Fork River where the Ouachita Mountains meet Broken Bow Lake, Beavers Bend offers a variety of options for RV camping, including 15 primitive camping areas, six areas with water and electric hookups, and two areas with full hookups and access to a dump station and bathhouse.

      All sites also feature bathroom facilities, and some also feature a full comfort station and shower facility. Beavers Bend also offers tent camping sites, 47 woodland cabins and a 40-room lodge overlooking Broken Bow Lake as well as a restaurant and adjoining grocery store.

      Pets are welcome, and rates are reasonable ranging from $63 to $250 a night for cabins, $18 to $26 a night for RV sites, and $10 a night for tent camping. There is also shelters available for group camping at $40 a night. All rates are current as of 2010.

    Secluded Acres

    • Located 2 miles north of Beavers Bend State Park, campers at Secluded Acres can enjoy boating and fishing, as well as a round of golf at nearby Cedar Creek Golf. Secluded Acres offers RV camping sites with full hookups, as well as tent camping sites. As of 2010, rates range from $25 to $30 a night, to $300 for a month of camping.

      A barbecue cafe, grocery store and restaurant all can be found on site. Secluded Acres also offers a variety of furnished, woodland cabins close to Broken Bow Lake. Many cabins include washers and dryers, charcoal grills and hot tubs. Rates vary depending on the size of the cabin, ranging from $75 to $395 a night as of 2010.

    Hochatown State Park

    • Hochatown State Park is located on the shore of Broken Bow Lake and is adjacent to Beavers Bend State Park. The park offers campsites much akin to those offered by Beavers Bend State Park.

      Amenities include a hiking trail, grocery store and the Cedar Creek Golf Course. RV and tent camping are available in areas such as Carson Creek or Stevens Gap and offer full hookups, shower facilities, a dump station, playgrounds and a marina. Rates range from $10 to $20 a night, as of 2010.

    Hochatown Junction RV Park

    • Located across from the entrance to Beavers Bend State Park, Hochatown Junction RV Park offers full service hookups complete with cable TV and Wi-Fi.

      A charming cafe called the Dancing Rabbit Internet Coffee House and a liquor store are both close by, as is access to Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park.

      Hochatown Junction also allows pets and its rates are affordable, ranging from $25 to $27 a night, as of 2010.
