RV Campgrounds Near Point Clear, Alabama

Jutting out like the point of an arrow on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Point Clear is the site of a historic 19th-century resort property -- the Grand Hotel -- today run by Marriott (marriott.com). The hotel and its grounds cover the actual point, with the rest of the Point Clear area populated by private homes and golf courses. It's a country club setting that doesn't lend itself to the camping lifestyle, not even luxury RVs. But a few full-facility RV parks exist on Alabama's eastern thumb, from Interstate 10 to the north to the Gulf Coast beaches.
  1. Closest to Point Clear

    • The closest RV parks to Point Clear are a few miles away, to the south and inland. Driftwood RV Park (no website; 9318 U.S. 98, Fairhope; 251-928-8233), a Good Sam Club campground, has an address listed as Fairhope, but it's actually south of that town and Point Clear on U.S. 98, a main thoroughfare through the region. If you're a train lover or traveling with young kids, Wales West RV Park (waleswest.com) will delight with its Welsh narrow gauge railway train rides and a museum adjacent to the RV resort.

    Near Interstate 10

    • Since many RVers tow cars behind them, they like to find a campground with easy access to an interstate to make a base camp then unhook the car for exploring the area. Historic Blakeley State Park (blakeleypark.com) does the trick nicely. It's north of the Spanish Fort exit on I-10, which is the same exit you'd use to visit Point Clear, and has pull-through sites to accommodate large RVs. Blakeley Park is on the banks of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta at the mouth of Mobile Bay, a pristine ecological wonderland, making this a good spot for nature lovers. Boat tours of the delta are available inside the park.

    Magnolia Springs Area

    • In the tranquil community of Magnolia Springs, just south of Point Clear, life moves at a much slower pace. It has one restaurant, one store and little traffic along its tree-lined streets, and mail is still delivered by boat to many residents whose homes are on the river. It's become an off-the-beaten path tourist stop. A few RV parks are nearby, including Magnolia Springs Golf & RV Hideaway Campground (magnoliaspringsgolf.com), with its 9-hole, par 3 golf course on site; and South Wind RV Park (southwindrvpark.info), which caters to active seniors in search of a quiet retreat. Magnolia Springs is close to Foley, a city known for shopping bargains at its many factory outlet stores.

    Near the Beach

    • The Alabama Gulf Coast beach resort towns of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are an easy drive from Point Clear. This is the place to go when you need surf, sand and beachside dive bars selling colorful frozen cocktails with little umbrellas in them. The large campground at Gulf State Park (alapark.com) is perfectly situated in a quiet spot set back from the beach beside a lake and near the state park's golf course. For those towing a boat, Bay Breeze RV Resort (baybreezerv.com) is on the water -- a rarity in the area -- and has its own private pier and beach area on the bay side of the Fort Morgan peninsula.
