In 1805, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark enjoyed the waters at Lolo Hot Springs. Today, Montana’s Lolo National Forest surrounds the mineral springs, which operates under private ownership. The Lolo Hot Springs resort also serves as a year-round base for such activities as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, hunting and snowmobiling. You can find RV campsites at the resort, in the national forest or in neighboring towns.
Stay at Lolo Hot Springs which operates a campground for tents and RVs, as well as deluxe and economy cabins, throughout the year. In addition to full RV hookups, the campground includes bathhouse and shower facilities, campfire rings and picnic tables. Summer recreational activities range from evening bonfires to horseshoes and volleyball. A senior discount is available, and pets are allowed with a nonrefundable deposit. Camping fees don’t include passes to the hot springs pool.
Three National Forest Service campgrounds near Lolo Hot Springs have RV spaces, although they don’t provide full hookups or amenities. These campgrounds open on Memorial Day weekend. Lee Creek Campground, a mile south of the hot springs, has 30-foot spurs for RV parking, drinking water and vault toilets. The Earl Tennant Campground, 7 miles from Lolo Hot Springs, has 40-foot spurs for RVs. This site has vault toilets but no drinking water. Both campgrounds close on Labor Day. Lolo Creek Campground, open until Sept. 30, has 30-foot spurs for RVs, drinking water and vault toilets. All three campgrounds also serve as interpretive sites, and each campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table.
The Square Dance Center, 25 miles east of the hot springs in the town of Lolo, operates an RV park and campground. Choose between sites with full hookups, 50-amp, water and electric, or no hookups. Amenities include showers, a dump station and free Wi-Fi and cable TV. Take advantage of on-site recreational opportunities such as fishing in Lolo Creek, horseshoe pits, a Wiffle ball course and a walking trail. You can also take dancing lessons or purchase square dancing attire. The campground is open May 1 through Sept. 30.
Additional opportunities for RV camping can be found 35 miles east and a bit north of Lolo Hot Springs in Missoula. Jim and Mary’s RV Park operates both pull-through and back-in sites with grass and lawns. Several sites accommodate big rigs, and Good Sam members receive a discount. The Missoula KOA operates more than 100 pull-through sites, some with patios and log swings. Several are targeted to big rigs. You can choose from 50-amp electricity, full hookups, or water and electric. Yogi Bear's Jellystone RV Park Camp-Resort has more than 100 spaces, some with 60- to 70-foot pull-throughs. All three campgrounds allow pets.
