North Carolina State Parks Near High Rock Lake

North Carolina is a gold mine for recreation. Mountains, rivers, lakes, and open space are certainly not lacking in this state, and High Rock Lake and its surrounding vicinity is a great place to start. Several parks crisscross around this region, located in Salisbury and Rowan County. There are numerous opportunities for hiking and exploring, with a total of 24 state parks in the county alone.
  1. Water Recreation

    • High Rock Lake is all about enjoying the water. Find the perfect park to access the lake, or find another lake nearby. To start, why leave High Rock Lake? The marina and campground here offer days of family fun. If you're ready to explore beyond High Rock Lake, paddle your way to High Rock Lake via the Yadkin River Trail, a favorite route for kayakers and the canoeing kind.

      Tamarac Marina and Campground also give access to High Rock Lake, with boating and fishing supplies available at the marina. In addition to High Rock Lake, boaters and fishers in the area can head over to Tucker Lake. RiverPark is another option, located at Cooleemee Falls for a beautiful rowing, hiking or picnicking session.

    Mountain and Forest

    • No list of state parks is complete without reference to the mountain and forests preserves, the true embodiment of nature. Dunn's Mountain Park is one of the newest Rowan County Parks, with transportation available to the top of the mountain on weekends. Explore a remote region of High Rock Lake. Eagle Point Nature Reserve is 200 acres of hiking of wildlife exploration. At Morrow Mountain State Park, you'll find Falls Reservoir nearby and enjoy the surrounding Hattaway Mountain. There's so much to see here, you'll need to camp for a while to take it all in.

    Playtime Parks and Preserves

    • Parks are also about golfing, picnics and playgrounds. In North Carolina, gold mining can also be added to that list. How about some gold hunting? Gold Hill Mines Historic Park is home of the first gold rush and is said to be the nation's richest mining property. Elizabeth Holmes Hurley Park offers riches in woodlands, streams, gardens and pathways all year-round.

      Kelsey Scott Park offers more than 20 acres of golfing, picnicking and sports recreation. Kerr Mill at Sloan Park covers all your outdoor fixes. There are trails for hiking, green space for sports, playgrounds for kids and even a museum on these 93 acres.
