Vegan Restaurants in Virginia

Vegan-style cuisine consists of non-meat and non-dairy ingredients. Both large and small cities scattered throughout the state of Virginia play host to vegan restaurants. Many vegan eateries in Virginia also use fresh ingredients or organic products found locally. Some restaurants serve meat or vegetarian entrees that chefs will alter into vegan form.
  1. Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant

    • Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant is in Falls Church, Virginia, a town located approximately eight miles across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. The bright and casual decor includes green-colored booths and chairs, light wood furnishings and a large sunflower light fixture that dominates the main dining hall. The pan-Asian, meat-free menu includes such vegan dishes as vegetable fried rice and grilled tofu and vegetable sandwiches with vegan cheese. A gas station and an ATM are within walking distance. The restaurant has its own parking lot.

    Cafe Gutenberg

    • Located in the capital city of Richmond, Cafe Gutenberg sits across the street from an Amtrak station. Housed within a two-story brick building, the casual eatery features creaky hardwood floors, cabaret-style chairs, artwork from local artists and outdoor patio dining. The menu features a wide array of meat, vegetarian and vegan offerings, the latter of which includes such items as Caesar salad, Belgian waffles and cheesecake for dessert. The kitchen uses fresh ingredients, some of which come from the farmers market located across the street. The surrounding region features limited street parking.

    Gillie's

    • Situated in southwestern Blacksburg, home to Virginia Tech, Gillie's sits at the meeting point of the university and the city's downtown region. The restaurant lies within the direct vicinity of the school's Black Box Theatre and Student Center. The relaxed setting features brightly colored walls, hardwood floors and vintage hanging light fixtures. The restaurant originally opened in 1974 as an ice cream shop before expanding its menu to include entrees. Upon request, the kitchen will prepare certain items as vegan fare, including black bean burgers, stir fry veggies and Japanese noodles with mushrooms, sprouts and sesame dressing.
