Exotic locations are often synonymous with corrupt government officials. Pack an ankle strap or waist band that you can use to carry the majority of your money. It will be concealed and help protect you against theft. Keep a small amount of money in your exterior pockets and use it when government officials require bribes and local thieves attempt to rob you. Although these situations are the exception rather than the rule, it pays to be prepared.
Packing clothing may seem like a simple process, but exotic locations require a plan for comfort. Pack high-quality rain gear when visiting tropical climates, and be prepared for extreme heat with ventilated shorts and breathable pants. You do not want to overpack, but high-quality clothing that is designed for the specific elements you will encounter will make your trip more pleasant. Also pack bug netting for tropical environments. Although you may be accustomed to insect bites, you do not want to risk a malaria infection.
