Before you can use a boat on Lake Lotawana, you must register it annually with the Lake Lotawana Association prior to May 1. Someone who rents or owns property on the lake must register the boats. The association can revoke the registration for failure to comply with regulations. Registered boats must be fully insured.
Only two personal watercraft and one pontoon boat may be registered per household. Power boats may be a maximum of 21 feet long, 3,100 pounds in weight, and eight feet, six inches wide. Motors must be less than 150 horsepower. Sound levels must be below 85 decibels when measured 50 feet from the boat. The association prohibits air boats, racing boats and houseboats.
Lake rules prohibit boating while intoxicated. Anyone involved in an accident who refuses a breathalyzer will lose lake privileges for a year. The association also prohibits negligent operation.
