Things to Do in Fremont, Seattle

The Fremont section of Seattle claims to be the center of the known universe, and it might just be if you are a fan of funky, artistic-minded, hip neighborhoods. The area itself is only a few square blocks, but there are many restaurants, clubs, bars and shops to explore. There is an artsy flair to everything, even a troll under a bridge.
  1. Theo Chocolate Factory

    • Tour the Theo Chocolate Factory for a fun and educational experience, learn about and sample organic chocolate and watch the chocolate being made. The company says it is the only "organic" maker of chocolate in the United Sates, taking the process from the "bean to the bar."

Tours are held seven days a week; reservations are recommended and required on weekends. Often tours are booked up about a week in advance. See and learn about cacao as well as how the company works with the bean farmers in South America. You will get a taste of the chocolate as part of the tour, and chocolate products are available in the store at the factory location in Fremont.

    Ride the Ducks

    • Taking a ride around Seattle takes on a whole new meaning when you ride the Ducks. The vessels are WWII amphibious landing craft, and you may see the sights of Seattle from the water, and make a stop in Fremont along the way. The ducks also go on land for at least part of the trip.

The trip gets you around and keeps you entertained. Coast Guard certified captains lead the adventure and keep you laughing while providing valuable information about the city. The ducks are a good way to make a stop in Fremont while in Seattle.

    Walking Tour

    • One of the best things to do in Fremont is to just walk around and take in the scenery, and best of all, it is free and perhaps the most entertaining thing in Seattle. Walk the streets and enjoy the many works of art and shops. See the troll under the bridge on 36th Street, which is a huge locally made sculpture. See the statue of Lenin, which is several tons and imported from Europe. Visit the Sunday market in summer for fresh food and people watching.
