Things to Do in Seattle for a Day

Seattle, Washington, known for being the rainy city, has numerous attractions, events and activities to provide for an adventurous day.   1. Space Needle

    • The Space Needle is a must-see attraction in Seattle. It was built in in 1962 in honor of the World's Fair and stands over 600 feet tall. The Space Needle has a rotating restaurant at the very top and an observation deck that provides visitors with a 360-degree view of the city. As of 2010, the observation deck hours are Sunday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until midnight. Admission prices as of September 2010 are $16 (adults 14 to 64), $14 (seniors 65+), $8 (children 4 to 13) and free to children under 3 years old. Discounts are offered for military personnel and their families with ID.

    Woodland Park Zoo

    • The Woodland Park Zoo has a wide variety of animals as well as interactive activities, which include feeding penguins and snakes. The zoo has strollers available as well as a picnic area, food concessions and a gift shop. The zoo is wheelchair accessible. Woodland Park Zoo hours as of September 2010 are daily from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m during the summer and the admission price is $10.50 (adults 13 to 64), $7.50 (children 3 to 12) and free for children 2 years old and under. It is recommended that you check the website or telephone the zoo for open hours during the fall and winter months.

    Blake Island's Tillicum Village

    • Tillicum Village on Blake Island is approximately eight miles from the Seattle Central Waterfront. This day trip lasts for four hours and begins with a 45-minute boat ride through Argosy Cruises. Upon arrival at the Island, enjoy a buffet dinner and entertainment, which is included with the price of the cruise. Following dinner and the performance, visitors have the opportunity to take a self-guided tour of Tillicum Village. Visitors can view as well as purchase artwork created by the locals or take a walk along the beach and through the forest trails. Admission prices as of September 2010 are $79.95 (adults 13 to 64), $72.95 (seniors 65+), $30 (children 5 to 12) and free for children 4 years old and under. You are required to book the cruise a minimum of four days in advance. Trips booked at least one month in advance receive an early-booking discount of $16 off of adult tickets and a $9 discount off of senior tickets. If interested in only going to Blake Island, without having the dinner buffet and performance, roundtrip tickets can be purchased for $40 per person. Hours for all cruises to Blake Island vary according to season.
