Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is open Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The modern and contemporary art is housed in a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is open from 10:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m. It, too, has modern and contemporary art, including a great collection of photographs and design objects. T
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is usually closed on Mondays, but has a program where it is open on holiday Mondays, like Memorial Day, Columbus Day, President's Day and Martin Luther King Day.
The Jewish Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. There is a great interactive exhibit for children called the Archaeology Zone: Discovering Treasures from Playgrounds to Palaces. Learn about Jewish Culture in Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey, which combines ritual objects, art, video and archeology.
The American Museum of Natural History is open from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Mondays. You can see the space show, an IMAX movie, visit the dinosaurs or explore the Hall of Human Origins, among dozens of other exhibits. There is a hands-on Discovery Room for kids ages five to 12 (must be accompanied by a parent/guardian).
Head to Carnegie Hall for great live music performances most nights of the week, including Mondays. Lincoln Center has performances at most of its theaters on Monday nights, including theater shows at the Mitzi E. Newhouse theater, jazz at Dizzy's Club Coca-cola, opera at the Metropolitan Opera House and varied performances at the Juilliard school of music.
In summer, Bryant Park has free movies on its lawn on Monday evenings, and the River to River Festival offers music, dance or theater in different locations by the water.
In late fall, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and the New York City Ballet's Nutcracker both have Monday evening performances.
