American Airlines passengers 18 and over are required to have a valid, government-issued photo ID for domestic travel. For international flights, a valid passport and/or visa is required. Call American Airlines before your departure date if you have any questions about the ID requirements for travel.
American Airlines has specific requirements concerning checked and carry-on bags. Domestic and international travelers are allowed one free carry-on and one personal item, and one to two bags (depending on the exact destination) checked per person for a fee. Bags that cannot fit securely in the overhead bins or under the seat in front of the passenger must be checked, and over-sized bags may incur additional charges. All bags are weighed at check-in.
Pets are allowed to travel on American Airlines provided that certain guidelines are met. Some pets, including ferrets, exotic reptiles and rabbits, are not permitted. Small pets (25 pounds or less) are permitted in the cabin, but larger pets must travel in the baggage area of the plane. Proof of current vaccinations and a health certificate from your veterinarian is also required for all traveling pets.
